  1. Where should I mount my Roam Express e-TAG®?
  2. The best location is on the inside top centre of your windscreen, just behind your rear vision mirror. Full mounting instructions are supplied with the tag. Note that some imported vehicles are fitted with a type of windscreen that is not compatible with any form of electronic tag or require the Tag to be mounted is a specific location. Please refer to your vehicle Hand Book or contact your vehicle supplier or our office if you are experiencing problems. Alternatively, you may view and download an installation guide here . Top

  3. On which Motorways will my Roam Express e-TAG® work?
  4. Your Roam Express e-TAG® is accepted on all electronic Toll Roads in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Top

  5. Mobile Phone Short Messages (SMS)
  6. If your mobile phone is SMS compatible let us know and we will use SMS as a convenient method of informing you about your account status. Top

  7. What sound should my Tag make?
    • A beep or bleep bleep indicates that your transaction has been accepted

    • Three beeps or a short trill indicate that your account needs attention and you need to contact Roam Express as soon as possible to rectify the issue.

    • Four beeps indicate that your Roam Express account has been deactivated and you need to contact Roam Express urgently to rectify the issue. Travel on toll roads while your account is deactivated can result in toll notices with administration fees, or possible fines. Top

  8. Do I have a Class 2 or Class 4 Vehicle?
  9. A Class 2 vehicle has 2 axles and is not over 2.8m in height or 3 axles and is not over 2m in height. All other vehicles are Class 4. Most cars, light trucks, cars with low trailers and motorcycles are Class 2 vehicles. Most trucks and buses are Class 4 vehicles. Top

  10. When using my Roam Express e-TAG®, how far behind the vehicle in front should I be?
  11. Always maintain a safe distance behind the vehicle in front. Top

  12. Whose responsibility is the Roam Express e-TAG®?
  13. The Roam Express e-TAG® always remains the property of Tollaust Pty Ltd, however you are responsible for it. Remember you are required to pay a Tag Deposit or a Monthly Tag Rental for each tag issued and if it is lost, stolen or damaged you will either forfeit your deposit or be required to pay a Tag Replacement Fee. If your Roam Express e-TAG® is stolen it is important to notify us immediately, otherwise any tolls paid using the Roam Express e-TAG® will continue to be debited to your account. Top

  14. Is the Roam Express e-TAG® interchangeable between vehicles?
  15. Yes, between vehicles of the same class category, provided the tag is mounted as per instructions. Additional Tag Mounting Brackets are available from the Roam Express e-TAG® Customer Service Centre. Top

  16. Will my Mobile Phone affect the operation of the Roam Express e-TAG®?
  17. No. You are reminded that you must use a hands free kit if using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle. Top

  18. What happens when an Roam Express e-TAG® is Deactivated?
  19. This normally happens when there is a payment problem with an account and the Roam Express e-TAG® becomes unusable. An Roam Express e-TAG® will automatically be deactivated when its account balance drops below $1. Further use of that Tag may result in toll violations being issued against the registered owner of the offending vehicle. An Account Reactivation Administration Fee will apply to reinstate a deactivated account. Top

  20. When should I change my Roam Express e-TAG® batteries?
  21. The batteries are designed to last over 5 years of normal use. When your batteries need changing we will contact you. Top

  22. Should I stop in the lane if my Roam Express e-TAG® appears not to work?
  23. If a boom gate prevents you from proceeding then wait IN YOUR CAR and an attendant will come and assist you. If there is no boom gate preventing you from proceeding then you should continue to drive through the lane but must call our service centre on 13 76 26 as soon as possible to determine why your tag failed to work. Top

  24. Can I open my Roam Express e-TAG® to see what is inside?
  25. No. If you open the tag it will automatically deactivate itself and you will be liable to pay a Tag Replacement Fee. Top

  26. At what speed do I go through the Toll Plaza?
  27. For Tag ONLY lanes you should not travel any faster than the posted speed. For all other lanes be prepared to stop as the vehicle in front of you may have to come to a complete stop to pay a manual toll. As there may be Customer Service Staff working on the Toll Plaza please be alert and look out for them. Top
