Your Roam Express e-TAG account or Visitor’s e-Pass covers you for travel on all toll roads in Australia, including Melbourne’s 2 toll roads, CityLink and EastLink. 

Melbourne tolls are deducted from your account or pass as you travel.

If you travel on a Melbourne toll road without an account or pass, you can pay for your travel by buying a pass within 3 days of your first trip. If you don't organise to pay within 3 days, an invoice for the cost of your travel plus an additional toll invoice admin fee will be sent to the vehicle's registered owner.

Melbourne’s toll road network

Melbourne has 2 toll roads, CityLink and EastLink. Both roads provide a convenient and safe way to get around.

CityLink

CityLink is a Transurban-owned 22 km toll road linking the Monash, West Gate and Tullamarine freeways. CityLink connects Melbourne Airport to the city centre, the Port of Melbourne and the city's south-east. By using CityLink, you can avoid the stop-start of traffic lights, major roundabouts and school zones.

EastLink

EastLink is a 39 km toll road linking the Eastern, Monash, Frankston and Peninsula Link freeways. EastLink connects Melbourne's eastern and south-eastern suburbs to the Mornington Peninsula.

    There are a few ways you can pay your Roam Express toll notice:

    1. Make a quick, one-off, online payment
    2. Save on fees when you open an e-TAG account and transfer the toll notice
    3. Contact our customer care team and we'll help organise your payment for you
  • Do I need to provide my licence plate number?

    Do I need to provide my licence plate number?

    Yes, you’ll need to provide your licence plate number when you buy a pass. You’ll also need to provide your vehicle’s make and model.

    When you travel, our tolling cameras photograph your licence plate number and match it to your pass. If your licence plate number is not registered on your account, we won't be able to match your vehicle to your pass. This means you'll be issued with a toll notice and charged additional fees.

    I have an e-TAG account but I received a toll notice

    When your e-TAG account is topped up and your account details are up-to-date, all your toll payments are automatically deducted from your account.

    You will receive a toll notice if:

    • your account balance falls below $0
    • your e-TAG isn’t installed correctly and/or beeping
    • your licence plate number isn’t registered to your account

    You will be charged a no tag in vehicle fee if your e-TAG isn’t installed correctly and/or beeping.

    No tag in vehicle fees are $0.75 per trip for the WestLink M7 or $0.55 per trip for all other Sydney toll roads.

    To avoid toll notices and unnecessary fees check that:

    • your account is active and has a positive balance
    • all your vehicles are registered to your e-TAG account
    • your e-TAG is correctly installed and beeps once when you pass through a toll point

    Vehicles are divided into classes and charged differently on toll roads.

    Your vehicle's class depends on its size. 

    Current standard classes are:

    • Car (Class A/ Class 2) – Vehicles less than 2.8 m in height and 12.5 m in length. Vehicle length measurement will include any trailer
    • Heavy commercial vehicle (Class B/ Class 4) – All other vehicles (also referred to as HCV)

    The Eastern Distributor currently divides vehicles into classes 2 and 4:

    • Class 2 (Car/ Class A) – A motor vehicle under 2.8m in height with two or less axles, or a motor vehicle under 2.0m in height with three or less axles. The axle count and height measurement will include any trailer
    • Class 4 (Heavy commercial vehicle/ Class B) – All other vehicles (also referred to as HCV)
